Men's Jewelry – Yes, It's a Thing

Published on 07/11/17

Men have worn jewelry since forever. In fact, the more money a man had, the more jewelry he wore to show off his wealth. Just think of those paintings of kings and lords from centuries ago; what do they all have in common (besides standing in weird positions)? That's right, bling. And lots of it.

Gold, silver and (later on) white gold were symbols of social status and wealth. Fashion jewelry didn't exist back then, but men wore signet rings, heavy gold chains with crosses, and more. Noblemen, counts, clergymen and lawmen all wore masculine jewelry designed to show their status and according to recognized markings.

However, at some point in Western culture, jewelry became identified with femininity, and so a manly man would not be seen wearing any jewelry at all. Too bad for them, huh?

Enter the sexual revolution of the 1960's, followed by Glam Rock in the 1970's (thank you, David Bowie!) and Hip-Hop culture in the 1980's up to the present day, with gender rules being thankfully so much more flexible; and nowadays any guy can wear any piece of jewelry he wants without being criticized or stigmatized. Hooray for progress!

Fun fact: The custom for husbands to wear wedding rings only became popular in the United States in the 20th century.

We at Belletto Jewelry realize that you men deserve our attention too. Why should girls have all the fun, right? So we created a unique collection just for you – rings, necklaces, pendants and bracelets, made of 925 sterling silver or 14k gold plated, all designed at the highest quality especially for guys who know that a real man isn't afraid of a little bling.
